There was a team wearing an Indian Head in St. Louis for the past few days. This team called themselves the Chicago Blackhawks. I find this odd, because this hockey team has very little in common with the Blackhawks that I know and love. They played dirty, they played lazy, they played uninspired. Going into this season, I didn’t expect the Blackhawks to repeat as Stanley Cup Champions, they are a perennially dominant force in the NHL, but they aren’t a dynasty. Yesterday’s game only confirmed what I have been thinking for months. They don’t care. Almost all of them have won a Cup, and now it doesn’t seem to mean anything to them. Brent Seabrook is facing a suspension, I could be wrong, but I don’t think he has ever been suspended before. A poll on the Chicago Tribune’s website has 75% of Hawks fans believing he deserves a suspension. He played like Raffi Torres, not like Brent Seabrook. All in all the Hawks had nine penalties in game 2. Nine. That is an insane amount for the team that doesn’t really have any hard hitters, and relies on speed rather than brute force. If the Blackhawks play Games 3 and 4 the way they played Games 1 and 2, lazy and uninspired, they will lose to the Blue in 4 games, and they will have deserved it. I don’t want the team that played in St. Louis to win a Stanley Cup, I want the Blackhawks to win a Stanley Cup.
